What's new in version 2023.2.2?
A Fresh User Interface That's Easy on the Eyes
The moment I launched the updated DataGrip, I was greeted by a sleek, novel user interface, and guess what? It's enabled by default! They've genuinely outdone themselves with this one. For those of us who prefer a lighter theme, an "Alternate Light with Light Header" option has been introduced. It's akin to a breath of fresh air, with harmonizing light shades for window headers, tooltips, and notification balloons.
But the UI overhaul doesn't cease there. Here's the kicker: all those toolbar icons we're accustomed to have been neatly relocated to the header. It's akin to a makeover for your workspace! You'll find icons for Database Explorer, Services, and Files right there. And guess what? You can personalize your toolbar by adding or concealing buttons effortlessly. Just click those three horizontal dots, and you're in control.
Colored Project Headers for Effortless Organization
Now, this is a game-changer if you work on multiple projects as I do. DataGrip's latest version introduces colored project headers. Yep, you heard me correctly. You can allocate a unique color and icon to each project. Bid farewell to the confusion of multiple open projects - you'll promptly recognize which one you're in. To customize your project headers, just right-click on a header, access the context menu, and choose your preferred color.
Revamped UI for Schema Migration Dialog
Schema migration has also received a facelift! The UI has been reworked, making it remarkably simple to comprehend what's transpiring. Objects are now positioned on the same line in both segments of the dialog. Trust me; it's a minor change that yields significant benefits.
AI Assistant: The Future of Database Work
JetBrains has embraced AI's potential with their integration of the potent JetBrains AI service, which encompasses OpenAI's capabilities and some of JetBrains' own magic. The best part? It's accessible as a plugin. The AI functionality is a game-changer, and I couldn't wait to give it a shot.
The star of the show is AI Chat. Although it doesn't possess all the insights into your databases or projects (yet), it's quite impressive. To commence, log into the JetBrains AI service utilizing your JetBrains Account.
But hold on, there's more! They've enhanced the Alt+Enter menu with AI Actions. You've got three potent tools at your disposal: Explain code, Suggest refactorings, and Identify potential issues. It's akin to having a coding wizard by your side. I even experimented with the "Explain code" action, and it was mind-blowing.
Connectivity: Seamless Database Interaction
DataGrip's latest version has elevated its connectivity game. Redis Cluster can now be connected to with the same features as standalone Redis. And if SSH tunneling is requisite for your cluster connection, you're covered.
Support for external databases and datashares in Redshift is another nifty addition. It's akin to having a magnifying glass for shared databases and their contents, simplifying their management. Furthermore, all related statements are supported in the SQL editor - a win-win!
More SSL Options and HTTP Proxy
DataGrip now offers additional SSL alternatives, enabling the explicit setting of the truststore for SSL CA files. No more guesswork. They've even streamlined working with JKS KeyStore files.
And here's the twist: HTTP proxy settings are now also utilized in remote development. That implies that if your driver also employs an HTTP proxy, you can configure it in the settings, and the connection will operate seamlessly.
Stay Informed with Last Refresh Timestamp
Have you ever pondered when the schema was last refreshed? Ponder no more! The "Show Schema Refresh Time" setting keeps you informed. It's especially handy if you're working with vast databases and abstaining from relying on Auto sync.
Data Editor: An Enhanced Editing Experience
Editing data is effortless with DataGrip's new time zone setting. You can exhibit datetime values in your preferred time zone. Furthermore, when altering settings in Settings/Preferences, a convenient preview is now at your disposal.
And if you've ever hidden columns and grappled with locating them later, the "Show all columns" action in the header context menu is your newfound ally.
Navigate and Code with Ease
Searching has become more efficient with "Search Everywhere." Now, you can also quest for text, simplifying the task of locating what you require in your database objects, files, actions, and settings.
Coding assistance is equally impressive. You can specify where and how identifiers should be qualified, granting you enhanced control. Additionally, syntax highlighting in inspection descriptions renders it simpler to grasp each inspection's purpose.
